Long before Al Davis was Al Davis, Connie Mack was Connie Mack. Though he didn’t have the sweet leather jump suits like Al, Mack remains the best-dressed manager in Major League history. For 50 years he controlled the Athletics and for 50 years he wore a suit in the dugout.

Now that the A’s are back in Philly, let’s take a trip with Mr. Mack down memory lane to where it all started.

The three-peat

The A’s are starting to report to Phoenix for spring training and it’s looking like they’re the favorite to win the American League West. If last year taught us anything, it’s that pitching wins titles, and the A’s should repeat as AL ERA champs.

But will they win it all, like the Swingin’ A’s did thrice in a row? If it weren’t for crazy ass Charlie O. Finley, who broke up the mustache gang, they probably had a couple more titles in them.

Remembering the Bay’s basketball titles

For all the glory that the Bay beholds, there have only been two basketball titles in the region’s history.

While the Golden Beers of California beat a pair of hall of famers with this guy on the way to the 1959 title, the ’75 Dubs beat that guy who everyone compares to Kevin Love whenever he makes an outlet pass.
