Their first days as Dubs

The Bay Area media was introduced to Golden State’s three draft picks on Monday. And boy, was it awkward. Following an opening statement from Dubs GM Larry Riley in the introductory press conference, there was nearly 30 seconds of silence before Matt Steinmetz saved the day and asked a question.

Klay Thompson: Possible friend of Tim Lincecum

Welcome to the Bay, Klay.

With their first round pick (No. 11 overall), the Dubs on Thursday selected Wazzu wing player Klay Thompson, who was one of the best pure scorers in the Pac-10 over the past couple of years. Thompson, son of former LA Laker Mychal Thompson, is an athletic 6-foot-7-inch player with one of the prettiest jump shots you’ll see.

eBm had the pleasure to watch him during his freshman and sophomore seasons. In talking to people who covered Wazzu, most concerns regarding Thompson revolve around his mental toughness, as we heard he could be a headcase.

The A’s 2011 draft class

It’s been a crazy few days for the Oakland front office. Not only are they playing musical chairs between triple-A SacTown and the Major League Town, but they just wrapped up three days of drafting.

Here’s a list of the 49 players Oakland selected in the 2011 MLB Draft, with some interesting tidbits. Also, Joe Ross was selected 25th overall by the Padres.

A’s notebook: The Rosses be bosses

It’s too bad he was a year late, but at least Tyson Ross was born on April 22 like Marshawn. For those who don’t know, eBm is proud to sponsor both of their stat-reference pages.

T-Ross was on his game (7 1P, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) Wednesday night in Anaheim, getting the no-decision in the 10-inning 3-2 win.
