The A’s 2011 draft class

It’s been a crazy few days for the Oakland front office. Not only are they playing musical chairs between triple-A SacTown and the Major League Town, but they just wrapped up three days of drafting.

Here’s a list of the 49 players Oakland selected in the 2011 MLB Draft, with some interesting tidbits. Also, Joe Ross was selected 25th overall by the Padres.

1. Sonny Gray, RHP Jr. Vanderbilt / Smyrna, TN
It sounds like everyone is loving this guy (pictured above). He’s a small righty (5-11, 200) with a good fastball, big curve and is working on a changeup. He been compared to Huddy and/or Roy Oswalt.

3. Bryan Vollmuth, 3B Jr. Southern Mississippi / Biloxi, MS
Brett Favre approved. He goes by B.A. Vollmuth.

4. Bobby Crocker, CF Jr. Cal Poly-SLO/ Aromas, CA

5. Beau Taylor, C Jr. Central Florida / Rockledge, FL

eBm covered him as a football player for two years at ASU. He’s a really friendly guy and a fast linebacker, but he didn’t play much baseball because ASU has one of the top programs in the country. The Rays picked him in the 29th round of the 2008 Draft.

Remember the name Vontaze Burfict, he’s going to be a legit NFL middle linebacker one day. Magee, Burfict and Shelly Lyons all played linebacker together at Corona (Calif.) Centennial HS and now they do it at ASU. The three of them are like brothers.

Plays for the Golden Beers. He scored on Devon Rodriguez’s epic walkoff single to keep Cal’s season alive.
